the story of strange bird…
In June 2020, our owner Lo Shabino decided it was finally time to set out and do something different. After months of planning during a pandemic, Lo set up Strange Bird Hair Studio. This eco-conscious space with a focus on organic, sustainable ingredients became a safe haven for all of her clients.
Lo lengthened her appointment times for her clients and rediscovered the joy of a thorough consultation and giving folks a safe space to feel seen, not rushed. Her passion for hair caught fire in a new way, and she began sharing this with her hair community by teaching one on one hair cutting workshops out of her studio.
Expanding Strange Bird became inevitable.
In April 2021, Strange Bird Salon opened to the public. This new chapter for Strange Bird is a cutting focused, completely clean air space located over on East 6th St. This salon creates a safe haven for more stylists who are wanting to join the movement. Now a flourishing salon with over 11 stylists, Strange Bird is proof that you do not have to offer chemical services to create a thriving and successful business. Clients love knowing they will leave with the best haircut possible, and stylists know they won’t be exposed to harmful chemicals day in and day out. We’d say thats a win/win :)
